Shallotte, NC, July 30, 2018 – Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (BEMC) is accepting teachers’ applications for the Bright Ideas grant program. The electric cooperative’s education grants fund creative, classroom-based learning projects up to $2,000. The final deadline to apply is Monday, September 24, 2018, however completed applications submitted by the early-bird deadline of August 15 will have a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card.
“We are proud to support educators whose enthusiasm and dedication impact the lives of so many young people in our service area,” said Don Hughes, CEO/General Manager of BEMC. “Every year we appreciate how our local teachers engage their students with new and different projects in the classroom. Brunswick Electric’s Bright Ideas grants are one way to show that appreciation.”
Last year, BEMC awarded $33,204 to fund 26 local projects in K-12 classrooms. Founded by BEMC in 1994, the electric co-op’s program has provided nearly $616,500 in grants to benefit students in Brunswick and Columbus counties. Today all 26 North Carolina electric cooperatives provide Bright Ideas grants to their membership and together have awarded more than $11.5 million to teachers, ultimately benefiting hundreds of thousands of students across the state.
North Carolina’s electric cooperatives serve more than 2.5 million people in 93 of the state’s 100 counties. The Bright Ideas education grant program is an example of the cooperatives’ commitment to empowering community and advancing education.
Classroom teachers at qualifying schools in Brunswick and Columbus counties may apply individually or as a team. Teachers who submit applications by the August 15 early bird deadline will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Visa gift card. The early bird prize winner will be recognized on the Bright Ideas website and Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ncbrightideas.
