The Southport-Oak Island Kiwanis’ 5K FUN RUN-WALK will begin on Saturday, April 20 at 8 am at Southport’s Waterfront Park, located at the corner of West Bay & South Lord Street. This signature event is part of the Southport Spring Festival held on April 19 and 20 in downtown Southport.
The 5K FUN RUN-WALK will go through historic downtown Southport and down the waterfront of the Cape Fear River. The course is paved asphalt and is mostly flat. The event is sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Southport-Oak Island.
Registration for the Kiwanis 5K Run-Walk is open online at Active.Com – search Southport Spring Festival. The entry fee is $25 if received on or before April 19 and $30 on race day. The entry fee includes a signature T-shirt.
On Friday, April 19, between 3 to 6 PM, those pre-registered runners can pick up their registration packet at the North Carolina Maritime Museum, 204 E. Moore Street, Southport, NC 28461. Forms will be available for last minute registration at the Museum and at Waterfront Park on race day from 6:30 to 7:40 AM.
The run-walk participants will be divided into 8 age groups from “13 and under” to “70 and up” and the runners of each age group for men and women will have 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Each winner will be awarded with a piece of artwork created by local artist, Ricky Evans.
