Shallotte, NC – ATMC recently presented the Town of Shallotte with Smart Rural Community signs. The Smart Rural Community designation, given by the NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association, highlights member projects which make rural communities vibrant places to live and do business through the implementation of innovative broadband-enabled solutions. The Town of Shallotte received this recognition because of ATMC’s $1 million dollar investment which provided more than 300 businesses in the Shallotte Business District with access to one Gigabit broadband speeds.
“Throughout the state, as I look at economic development, one of the essentials for any town is to have access to fiber optics,” said Mayor Walt Eccard. “We’re delighted that ATMC has taken the lead to provide fiber optic technology to our businesses and we are convinced this will promote further growth in Shallotte and benefit our citizens.”
In addition to providing fiber optic technology to the Shallotte Business District, ATMC has also helped to bring fiber optic technology to all Brunswick County public schools, local health care facilities, the Brunswick County 911 Communications Center and more. ATMC’s ongoing network upgrade and expansion project was another major factor in its selection for
the prestigious award.
“This is our hometown, so when we began installing fiber optic technology to business districts in the county we wanted to start right here in Shallotte,” said Keith Holden, ATMC CEO. “We are proud of the work we’ve done throughout Brunswick County that laid the foundation for receiving this national recognition. Because of our investment in the community, we are able to recognize towns, like Shallotte, as a Smart Rural Community and the town is able to benefit from the designation.”
