SUPPLY, N.C. (January 22, 2019) – Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (BEMC) invites local agencies and groups to apply for a 2019 BEMC Community Grant. Begun in 2003, the program provides grants up to $2,500 to local groups that provide family services programs, civic and community programs, cultural and arts programs, emergency services, and community development activities. The deadline is February 15, 2019.
Since inception more than $533,000 in Community Grants has helped several hundred projects benefiting citizens throughout the BEMC service area. Last year, 39 projects were selected to receive funds totaling $48,424 for projects in Brunswick and Columbus counties. Funding for these grants comes directly from proceeds from the surplus equipment auction held at BEMC’s annual membership meeting each September.
“Our Community Grants are another way we can extend a helping hand to local community groups who do good work for others. These funds benefit organizations that help people of all ages in our communities; children and young families as well as those dealing with health issues, the homeless, and of course, our senior citizens,” said Don Hughes, CEO and General Manager of BEMC.
“This program is a very visible part of the co-op’s ongoing commitment to community. It is an important part of our grant and scholarship opportunities, up there with BEMC’s Bright Ideas educational grants for teachers and our $5,000 college scholarships to graduating seniors,” said Hughes.
