Ocean Isle Beach, NC – The busy summer season is almost behind us; it’s time to look ahead to fall. From September 5 to December 28, the Museum of Coastal Carolina will be open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10:00 to 3:00. The open hours may be shorter, but there are still lots of interesting activities this fall at the museum.
On Thursdays at 11:00, education coordinator, Kimberly Belfer presents a new series of programs called “Senior Science” especially for seniors who are interested in learning more about STEM and STEAM activities on a more advanced level. Have some fun! Challenge yourself to build a marble out of Legos®. Use chemistry to understand the science behind dyes. Build bird feeders and home décor items with seashells and driftwood. Kimberly also plans to incorporate some hands-on activities like Beachy Bingo and Fun with Dash and Dot robotics.
On Fridays at 11:00, the museum continues its popular Touch Tank Feeding. Help museum docents feed the live animals in the Touch Tank.

Sept. 14 – Ocean Isle Beach Shore Excursion; Oct. 12 – Marsh Walk; Nov. 9 – Bird Walk. Wear appropriate clothing and bring water and sunscreen. For the bird walk, bring along your bird guidebook and binoculars.
Other Saturday programs beginning at 11:00 include a new series called Into the Unknown.
Each program concentrates on a different topic: Sept. 7 – Deep Sea; Oct. 5 – Fossils; Nov. 2 – Plankton; Dec. 7 – Sea Jellies.
The museum is continuing its popular Budding Scientists program for curious young children on Saturdays at 11:00: Sept. 28 – Amazing Animals; Oct. 26 – Creepy Lab;
Nov. 30 – Super Saturday; Dec. 28 – Fantastic Physics. Rounding out the 11:00 Saturday programs: Sept. 21 – Fun with Dash and Dot; Oct. 19 – Snakes Alive!; Nov. 16 – How Shells are Formed; Nov. 23 – Stomp Rockets; Dec. 14 – Geometry and Holiday Origami; Dec. 21 – Make and Take Holiday Crafts.
The museum’s Coastal Gallery will feature original art, some of it for sale for the first time, by local artist V. Ryan (“Bunny”) Lauzon. Meet the artist at a reception from 12:00-
1:00 on Sept. 6. The museum’s Sandbar Lecture Series continues this fall with these 6:00 pm programs: Sept. 10 – Drones with Calvin Taltavall; Oct. 8 – The History and Haunting of Hickory

We’re not done yet! Here are some special events scheduled to take place at the museum: Oct. 26 – Trunk or Treat; Nov. 9 at 1:00 – Honor Flight movie; our new holiday Festival of Trees from 10:00-3:00 on Nov. 21-23, Dec. 5-6 and Dec. 12-13. The museum will have extended Saturday hours from 10:00-5:00 on Nov. 30 and Dec. 7 and 14. Holiday Night at the Museum takes place on Nov. 29 from 5:00-8:00 with special fundraiser admission pricing which includes live entertainment by Opportunity Rocks, Makai Brewing serving wine and some of their special beers, and food provided by Chad Childress with the Dawg Wagon. Tickets will go on sale Oct. 1 at the museum.
