Ocean Isle Beach, NC – Mary Ellen Rogers from Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter will talk about pelicans at the Museum of Coastal Carolina at 6:00 pm on August 6. This program is part of the weekly Sandbar Lecture series sponsored in part by OIB Surf and Java.
Rogers moved to Oak Island, NC in 2005. In 2007, she founded Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured, sick, or orphaned wild birds. New arrivals at the shelter exceed 350 birds annually. The shelter is currently working to move into a new, expanded facility. Occasionally, a wild bird brought to the shelter cannot be released into the wild. When that happens, Rogers tries to obtain the permits needed to make the animal an ambassador in the shelter’s educational outreach program. Tim the Pelican is one such animal; Tim will be accompanying Rogers to the museum for her August 6 program.
The Museum of Coastal Carolina is located at 21 East Second Street, Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Admission to the museum is free for members. Admission is free for active duty military and disabled veterans plus up to one guest (must include military ID cardholder). Non-member all-day admission is $9.50 for adults, $8.50 for seniors (62+), $7.50 for children (3-12), and free for age 2 and under.
