On Sunday, January 20 at approximately 3:30pm, an inmate who was being detained in the Brunswick County Detention Facility, was found unresponsive in his cell from a suicide attempt. Detention Officers and medical staff began CPR in an effort to revive the inmate. EMS transported him to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he passed away earlier this morning.
The inmate, Dustin Kinlaw, 26, was not under suicide watch. He was being detained on charges of two counts of possession of heroin, PWIMSD cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, felony possession of SCH II CS, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of SCH III CS, and possession of marijuana.
As per normal protocol, an internal investigation is being conducted as well as an investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations.
