Ocean Isle Beach, NC – July 16th , at 6 pm, Museum of Coastal Carolina presents “Three Not So Ordinary Joes” with Julie Hedgepeth-Williams.
Though Julie herself lives in Birmingham, Alabama, with her husband in a historic house, she considers Ocean Isle is the happiest place on earth. Julie has deep roots in Ocean Isle Beach as her family has owned a home in the area since 1981 and Julie’s love for the OIB area brings her to vacation here every year. Back in Birmingham, Alabama, Julie is the Assistant Professor of journalism and mass communication at the Howard College of Arts and Sciences. To Julie journalism is the “day-to-day record of history” and has expressed this concept through her multiple published books such as “A Rare Titanic Family” and “Wings of Opportunity”.
Currently Julie is working on a new book, tentatively titled “Three Not So Ordinary Joes”, where she focuses on three newspapermen, all named Joe, who staggered their way into founding and creating southern literature. For this program, at the Museum of Coastal Carolina, Julie will bring the story of the “Three Not So Ordinary Joes” to life!
Before the show, Julie will recruit four volunteers from the audience to take part in three short skits based on one story apiece from each of the three Joes. This program is considered a storytelling program and can give audience members a chance to be in the spotlight!
The Sandbar Lecture Series is sponsored in-part by OIB Surf and Java providing coffee to all who attend. The Museum of Coastal Carolina is located at 21 East Second Street, Ocean Isle Beach, NC.
