WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – In an effort to bring social distancing to the WECT Newsroom and to
encourage viewers to stay at home, Carolina in the Morning anchors Kim Ratcliff and Bob Bonner, and evening anchors Ashlea Kosikowski and Frances Weller will broadcast their respective newscasts from their homes.
As the COVID-19 threat began to impact the Cape Fear region, plans were made to increase remote
functionality to while providing an uninterrupted experience for broadcast and digital viewers.
“We wanted to make sure our viewers know we’re practicing what we preach” said WECT News Director Brad
Myers. “It’s critical during this unprecedented time that everyone takes this virus seriously. That’s why we
made the decision to move as many of our news crew members outside of our building—while still maintaining our commitment to provide news and weather updates for our community.”
Reporters began submitting updates from the field rather than the studio last week. Members of the digital,
marketing, and sales teams have been working remotely as well.
“Though viewers may notice a difference in where their news is being broadcast from” said Myers “there will
not be a difference in the urgency of reporting the confirmed, accurate information that is expected of us in this rapidly changing situation”
